Aspiring model Jasha Lottin admits she doesn’t understand why people give a flying hoot that she bought a horse, shot it dead, gutted it, posed naked for photos inside the carcass, then ate the animal and posted the photos on the Internet. “No idea why people care,” she tells Seattle Weekly.

But people do seem to care. It also strikes us as weird that she would go through the trouble to do this, post the photos to 4Chan and then wonder what the big deal is. A North Carolina man cared enough to alert the Washington County authorities, who conducted a thorough investigation of Lottin. Turns out, the county sheriff’s determined the 21-year-old broke no laws and didn’t abuse any animals.

“At some point you in your career you say yeah I’ve seen a lot of bad stuff — you see this kind of picture and you realize maybe you haven’t seen everything,” Sgt. Dave Thompson told KOIN.

Lottin told Seattle Weekly she was inspired in part by Empire Strikes Back, specifically the scene where Han and Luke climb into the belly of a Tauntaun to survive a night in the freezing cold.

According to a police report Lottin and her friend John Frost had purchased a 32-year-old dying horse in Richfield, Wash. Shortly after buying the animal Frost shot it in the head with a .300 Winchester Magnum hunting rifle (the horse had apparently been scheduled to be euthanized already), then the two skinned and gutted it before finally beginning their photo shoot.

The reason for climbing inside the animal was later explained to deputies as Lottin’s desire to “be one with the animal.”

That and her love of Star Wars.

Thompson says the animal was put down humanely, and though the case is bizarre and “there’s really nothing to compare it to,” it’s sort of an open and shut thing. Lottin has since pulled her Facebook page due to harassment and told Seattle Weekly she doesn’t care to comment on the matter any more. The reason she did what she did was because it was “just spontaneous,” she added.

What’s strange about this is no one would care if the girl and her boyfriend had simply killed the horse and butchered it for meat. It’s the photograph part that has people up in arms. To be sure, the photos are not safe for work, not safe for life, not safe for dinnertime, they’re just not safe at all.
